I have a Phillips Dream machine and using the full face mask. I just started Cpap. on 9/16.

Ok so the first few days were not bad. Last night I wanted to throw the machine against the wall!!!! My problem, I fall asleep fine then I keep waking up with the machine blowing so hard its making my cheeks puff out. Or I will be woken up to the feeling of I cannot get any air. I have attached a photo of my first weeks statistics. My original setting was low 4 high 20. I don't know if I should shut off auto? What pressures do you recommend? Im losing more sleep now, verses me sleeping without the machine. I ask my doctor and he keeps saying "give it time". Can anyone recommend some help. There have been days where I sleep for more than 6 hours. Last night frosted me. any help will be appreciated. I think I need to stop adjusting the machine and maybe stick to one setting for a week or so.

First let's make a little change in the % of time above red line statistics so that it isn't basing that statistic on an incorrect baseline number.

SleepyHead/OSCAR defaults to a red line threshold for a ResMed leak number and it doesn't work so great with Respironics machines.
Go to Preferences/CPAP tab and on the right upper side see where it talks about red line threshold...and it says 24 L/min. Respironics users don't have a static red line where large leak territory begins...it varies with mask and pressure but change the 24 to maybe 70 L/min and that will be close or just turn it off so it doesn't do that statistic.
Any time in large leak will show up on the events graph on the daily detailed report....see the LL line at the top...that's large leak. If your machine thinks you went over the threshold it will flag it there and a gray area will show up on the other graphs.

I think that maybe you should quit limiting the maximum...though I understand why....and instead increase the minimum to around 8 cm and then get us a detailed daily report.
The statistics page that you posted doesn't really tell us what happened in detail.
See this thread for what graphs to post. Don't need or want them all.
http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t1585 ... eview.html

If you look at the detailed report and you are seeing it hit the max of 13 that you are using now very often or for prolonged periods of time...you need to increase the maximum...unless it just briefly kisses the max.

Your minimum pressure is the most critical setting....not the maximum.

Thank you for your help. If I understand what your saying is to make my max back to 20 and min to 8? What about flex?

Flex is your choice...whatever feels more comfortable.

See the snores even on the lower AHI night with the higher minimum?
That means that the airway was still trying to close and the machine maxed out at 12.5 or 13 and it wanted to go higher but couldn't. It probably wouldn't have needed to go to 20 but maybe 15. It won't go anywhere without a good reason.
A little higher minimum might just do a better job holding the airway open and it might not even need to go as high.

What position are you sleeping?
Some parts of the night you aren't needing the higher pressure.
I am wondering if you were maybe on your back at those times.
If that is true if you can maybe stay off your back more you might see lower pressures overall.

Thank you for your help!! When people said they changed to 7 - 12, I understood it being the low/high number. Thats why I changed it from 20 to 12 and kept going lower. I uploaded last night, made the changes you recommended. In your opinion should I say at these numbers for a while? Any other changes you see?

The first week I tried to only sleep on my back, my thinking was it was better for the machine. Last night I slept on my side for as long as possible. Numbers look good!?

Im going to try to faze out Flex and Ramp slowly. In reading it seems these are only for comfort.

How'd you sleep last night?
Soundly for the most part or not?

You know how I feel about the comfort stuff? Pretty darn important in my book because if I am not comfortable then I don't sleep so great and how I sleep is number one in my book.
If you find that you need to be comfortable....so be it.

I would leave things alone for now.....your choice later if you wish to phase out the comfort features.
I have been on cpap over 10 years now...Pretty much all of that using some sort of exhale relief. It just makes for more natural breathing.
More comfortable....which means I sleep better.

Now I have never used the ramp but that is because I just didn't need it with the exhale relief.

I would ignore the VS2 snores for now if you say you slept well and feel decent. You were probably on your back when they happened.

I passed out till about 3am, had to use the restroom. After that my sleep was off and on. I have a somethings I have to do today. Plus I had caffeine a little later than I should have last night.

Throughout the night the pressure was good. Felt controlled and snug. The last few nights I kept waking up too much air blowing down my throat, and weak pressure with leaks.

I take you advice on comfort stuff. I'll take my time. See how I feel.
