I have been practicing Tai Chi and Qigong practices and meditations for quite some time. We use equal inhale and exhale breaths as a goal in our routines. I notice with my CPAP device all the air pressure is for the inhale. The exhale feels like it is going against the pressure of the air.
Here is the best lesson on Breathing that I recommend by Paul Cavel on youtube.

I can do this kind of practice outside of my sleeping time, but want to get the maximum benefit from correct breathing into my life.

I have read a few topics about Res Med being more comfortable than Respironics. Would another kind of machine allow for easier exhaling?

PAP Mask: F&P Vitera & Simplus, ResMed F20 N/P30i & old Amara View
PAP Machine: NIV ResMed Astral 150 soon
Humidifier: To be included with Astral & heated single limb leak circuit
Pressure Setting: Will run iVAPS, ResMed's variant on AVAPS

A ResMed like the AutoSet has EPR to gain Exhale Pressure Relief of 1-3. This tends to be more comfortable. ResMed also can give equal or better therapy as the Respironics while using lower pressures. This too gives better comfort.

I'm starting to use an exercise from James Nestor's book "Breath".
Slow Breathing: All nasal breathing:
5.5 breaths in a minute
Inhale for 5.5 seconds
Exhale for 5.5 seconds
Do a few minutes of this exercise.

I found that my Phillips Respironics Dream Station DSX500 has a feature for reducing pressure when you breathe out. It is called A-flex pressure relief. It also has a feature called Opti Start which delivers pressures based on the previous night.

My breathing exercises and my Dream Station have improved my Oximeter percentages. I was recording 94% before starting CPAP. Now I'm getting 97% and 98% readings. I highly recommend slow breathing and Qigong breathing exercises.
