As the title says, I can't keep my lips from leaking air while using a nasal mask. This problem just started a couple weeks ago, at first my jaw was relaxing and my mouth would open and let air out so I bought a chin strap. The strap works as far as keeping my teeth together and not letting my jaw fall backwards but now the air gets around my teeth and I wake up sounding like a 3 year old making toy car sounds. :P I have a goatee that I'm NOT going to shave so a full mask is out of the question. I was thinking about taping my lips shut but was hoping someone would come up with a better option so I don't scare my kids. Thanks in advance!

Some people have success with a cervical collar to keep the chin up. Also, you might look at this mask if your goatee is short.

My chin isn't falling down though, the strap I have is keeping it up. My lips are pushing out from the pressure. I don't think I could do a full face mask like that, looks claustrophobic.

Thanks,
Keith

PAP Mask: Amara View

Humidifier: ResMed Heated
Pressure Setting: 8-15

The Amara View is the best of both worlds. It covers just around the mouth and snugs up to the nose without entering the nose. Nothing is "in your face" -- When I go to bed at night, I like to read on my tablet for about 10 minutes - and I wear reading glasses - there is absolutely no problem with using the Amara at the same time as there is nothing on the nose or cheek area. You should give it a shot! I see there is one for only $59.99 (I think) on the mask page here if you don't have insurance to cover one.

Another idea -- My brother in law has a problem something like yours - and his doctor made him an appliance to wear that he bites into - it's soft - but will block any air from escaping between your teeth.

Want to hear my hilarious solution that totally works for me?? Ok so I cut a pair of tights (like panty hose) into a band about 2" wide I put it on just under my mouth around my neck. Fold it in half. Then put on my ruby chin strap. Then nasal mask and no more mouth leak from lip flutter. Now be advised you will look like a bank robbing alien but hey... it works lol

I use a cloth headband but wear it over my lips.

short of taping, some people just can't keep their mouth closed.

I'm retired and cut my beard when i feel like it. Last time I cut it, it was one year's growth with a nice big, thick beard. I sleep with my Quattro FX full face every night and none of the facial hair interferes at all.

I've tried different chin straps, with a mouth guard and either tape or a headband. It worked some nights and others it didn't. Last week my Dr. increased my pressures quite a bit so I've been back struggling every night since. I figured that I have enough crap on my face as is, I might as well go full mask so today I was fitted with a Resmed Quattro Air after trying 5 different masks. We will see how it goes, thinking I'll try the mouth guard with it tonight. Thanks for the replies!

Just realized I said just under my mouth but meant under my nose... obviously over my mouth.
