A friend was storing my CPAP in storage temporarily and she told me that she thinks something caustic may have got inside of it. It looks absolutely clean but I’d like to know how can I clean it? My guess is the I’d probably have to run it for awhile? Or maybe just get another machine? I really don’t want to get rid of it because it’s fairly new. The machine is the Resmed Air Curve 10 Auto

I'd consider replacing the filter, and washing the hose and humidifier tub with Dawn or similar dish soap. Use hot water and soak it for about 30 minutes. Then use very warm to hot water to rinse all soapy residue and sit to dry. Or you can use a new hose and humidifier tub if you have extras.

During a recent 5 day hospitalization, staff used saline solution in my CPAP. Unit now is no longer runs quiet. It “whistles.” I’ve been advised that buying the requisite solution and doing it myself would probably not be effective. Isn't there something I can put in the reservoir then run the machine [not while using the mask], maybe at high humidity setting, so the valves, etc. will be cleansed?

Think about how a CPAP machine works....regardless of what is in the humidifier tub....THE AIR GOES OVER IT AFTER IT LEAVES THE MACHINE...
Nothing in the tub ever gets into the machine.

Is the whistle possibly coming from the humidifier tub seals? This means either the 2 round air passage seals in the recessed tub area or the humidifier lid seal. Check to be certain the tub is fully closed and that it is seated fully in the machine recess. Salt water should not have caused damage to create a whistling sound.
