PAP Mask: Philips DreamWear Nasal Cushion and Full Hybrid
PAP Machine: ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea during an at home sleep study. Of course, the night I took the study I had a great night sleep. My AHI was still 11.1. I suspect it would be higher on a typical night. In any case I was prescribed a CPAP. I ended up ordering a ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto from secondwind. Since I am purchasing on my own and not through insurance I didn't want to order a CPAP and find out later I needed a bilevel machine. I have also heard that some people sleep better on bilevel machines. I figured, worse case scenario I could always set it to CPAP mode.

In any case. Last night was my first time using it. I started the night with a DreamWear Nasal Cushion mask but about 2 hours in I woke up with my mouth open. I'm not sure if it was a fluke or not but I switched to the DreamWear Hybrid/Full for the rest of the night. That is why there is a gap in the data at about 2 hours in. I had the machine set to Vauto mode 5-14, with PS 4. I'm trying to learn how to best interpret the data in OSCAR. It looks like I have mostly CA flags which I have heard could mean the pressure is too high? The cluster of events at around 2:30 seems like a lot. It looks like I had at OA about 15 minutes or so after changing masks (probably when I fell back asleep) then the machine ramped up a bit and possibly caused the cluster of CA events? I'm not sure though, I'm obviously really new at this and just doing my best to try to interpret the data. I know these machines work better when they are dialed in and not left on auto. What would the best suggestion be for tonight? Should I be messing with the PS at all yet? Thanks for any insight.

PAP Mask: Practically tried them all.
PAP Machine: Use Phillips Respironics System One APAP with Aflex for mask testing
Humidifier: None
Pressure Setting: When testing, I use APAP with a range of 5-10

Don't know know about the CA being flagged without looking at them. The cluster is likely a post arousal event made worse by the variable pressure. Yes, it was elevated at the time.

I'd personally go with a fixed pressure of 10/6 and see what happens over a couple of nights. Leave the pressure support alone.

Can't argue with that advice.

Assuming you're in the USA you should ask for your copies of the script and detailed sleep study. HIPAA permits you to request and receive these documents. 1 it's good to have it in your personal health file. And secondly you may post a redacted report and see what it has to say. It should have the info necessary to type the CA events if they'd showed on the study.

I myself having pre-existing or predominant CA and experienced a plain CPAP as not treating well, BPAP was much worse, and ASV being the only answer for this type of CA. The ones I have is what I mean. I don't know what you've got and guessing is not a good idea.
